Saxen Signs Powers And Bourgeois To Management Deal
LOS ANGELES—Surfer, radio host, Hollywood personality and entrepreneur, Bron Heussenstamm, announced today he has formalized management deals with pro surfers Ben Bourgeois and Roy Powers.
Heussenstamm will manage the business and marketing goings-on of 2008 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Championship Tour (WCT)-bound Bourgeois and Powers under the auspices of Saxen International, an agency he founded earlier this year, which specializes in promoting sports talent, event production and business consulting. “I’ve known Bron since we were kids surfing against each other, he’s traveled the world as a top pro (surfer), he knows the ins and outs of what we go through and he understands the business,” says Bourgeois. “We’ve talked about doing something like this for a long time, and I’m looking forward to his help when I rejoin the WCT next year, so I can simply concentrate on surfing.”
Powers additionally secured his place on the WCT after clinching top honors at last month’s Reef Hawaiian Pro at Haleiwa, the penultimate stop on the World Qualifying Series (WQS) tour and the first leg of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.
“My business has developed very quickly in recent years, and I’m excited to have the resources and ability to help my surfing friends at this critical time in their careers,” says Heussenstamm. “A lot of agents are attracted to action sports and throw themselves into it without really knowing what the business is about. I’m looking forward to using my experience to make sure my clients’ careers are advanced properly, and to working with their sponsors and the media with a focus that the sport demands today.”
Heussenstamm, 28, was himself a top-rated professional surfer prior to attending University of Southern California, where he received a degree in business. In addition to agency life, the Laguna Beach local hosts a weekly sports radio program on KTAR (www.ktar.com) with Arizona Cardinals Quarterback Matt Leinart, and guest hosts regularly on The Extreme Scene on the San Francisco Bay area’s KNBR (www.knbr.com).
Touting him as “the new king of L.A.’s nightlife,” Sports Illustrated honored Heussenstamm last month with the No. 9 spot on its online “Pop Culture Hot List.” Honors were shared with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen (No. 1), Kobe Bryant (No. 2), fellow surfer Kelly Slater (No. 4), David Beckham (No. 7) and pop singer Rihanna (No. 8).
On the business front, Heussenstamm consulted for the American Basketball Association Hollywood Fame; Nick Lachey’s Yfly.com; Hot Tuna International and Aftermath Apparel. He has produced more than 100 events, including the Matt Leinart Draft Party, Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas; Billabong’s “Framelines” and “3 Degrees” video premiers; and a USC National Football Championship Title party.
