Celebrate World Ocean Day with San Diego Coastkeeper

Celebrate the Ocean! On World Ocean Day, Sunday, June 8th from 9-11am San Diego Coastkeeper will host a beach cleanup at La Jolla Shores in an effort to demonstrate actions that we can take in our local communities to prevent plastic debris and renegade trash from entering the ocean. After the cleanup, we will discuss the importance of marine conservation, local Marine Protected Areas and Areas of Special Biological Significance at La Jolla Shores by giving a guided beach tour and presentation. Please meet us by the main lifeguard station to grab your cleanup materials.

We will also host an on-the water kayak cleanup at the Shores. Big thanks to Hike, Bike, Kayak San Diego for donating the use of kayaks for this event! There will be limited space, so please email sarah@sdcoastkeeper.org if you are interested (you are also welcome to use your own kayak). Kayakers, please meet at 8:45am at the end of Avenida De La Playa near the boat launch.

Ben and Jerry’s will be out scooping ice cream for cleanup participants, and The Solana Center for Environmental Innovation will be hosting demonstrations on composting and sustainable practices. Wear you favorite shade of blue…any hue will do!

Please join us for this important volunteer event in honor of World Ocean Day 2008.
