BIARRITZ, France (Monday, July 14, 2008) – The Roxy Pro Junior, an Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Grade-2 Women’s event, got underway today in glassy two foot (0.5 meter) waves at La Cote des Basques. The Roxy Pro Junior, who is part of the 2008 Roxy Jam, featured Europe’s best Under-21 surfers and a couple of overseas surfers including Oahu’s wonderkid Carissa Moore (HAW) today.

All favorites managed to find their way through to the Quarterfinals today, and four heats only remain before Round 2 is completed. All girls, both Junior and ASP Women’s World Longboard Tour contenders, will check-in tomorrow morning at 8 AM (GMT+1) for a possible restart.

Pauline Ado (FRA), reigning ASP European Women’s Junior Champion, was much awaited for her first battle and easily got through to Quarterfinals after defeating Camille Davila (FRA), Idoia Meabe (EUK) and youngest surfer of the event Lucie Milochau (FRA).

“I am disappointed with my heat because I could not get a wave in the first ten minutes”, Ado said. “I wish I could have surfed better. The waves are small and the tide was too high when I paddled out.”

Ado, who is a former International Surfing Association (ISA) Junior World Champion, is one of France’s best hopes towards a possible ASP Women’s World Tour qualification. Ado just came back from South Africa’s ASP WQS 5-Star Mr Price Pro where she placed second.

“I’ve had some good time lately and I am stoked to get a few good results”, Ado said. “With more pressure and focus, I know I will be able to upgrade my surfing for next round.”

Carissa Moore (HAW), a 16-year-old surfing phenomenon who placed equal 5th in the ASP Women’s World Tour Roxy Pro on the Gold Coast at the beginning of the year, put on a amazing performance in Round 1 posting an 18.80 point heat tally (out of a possible 20) to esasily advance through to Round 2 where she confirmed her supremacy over ASP European Women’s Champion Lee-Ann Curren (FRA).

“I am super stoked to be here for my first time in the Roxy Pro Junior”, Moore said. “It is very challenging but it is an awesome opportunity to come here and spend some good time.”

Moore, who also surfed in the Roxy ASP Women’s World Longboard Championships where she lost to Justine Dupont (FRA) in Round 3, has no pressure.

“I don’t expect anything special from this event”, Moore said. “I just want to enjoy it as much as I did in the Women’s World Longboard Championships and surf some good waves.”

Cannelle Bulard (REU), current ASP European Women’s Junior who won the first event of the season in Portugal, will be first out when competition resumes tomorrow Tuesday, July 15 and is a favorite for a possible crown at La Cote des Basques this week.
