Last week we got an e-mail alerting us to a short Vimeo Video on Hurricane Leslie hitting the Outer Banks. One of the surfers in the video was Michael Powell. Well we wanted to know a little bit more about Michael.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up Ocean Isle Beach, NC which is in the deep south of North Carolina.
When did you learn to surf? First surfboard?
When I was 11. A used 4’11″ Perfection.
Heroes? Who influences your surfing?
Christ. I enjoy watching Julian, Kolohe, Taj and John.
Where do you live now?
I live in Wrightsville Beach, NC.
Favorite surf spot? Maneuver?
Cape Hatteras, NC. Cutting back.
Are you a contest surfer? Traveler? Sponsors and shout outs.
I have done some of the star series ASP events this year and climbed into the 150 range. I travel with the focus being those contest. A relationship with Reef has helped me pursue the dream of surfing and I am doing my best to keep that alive.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I would like to continue traveling and competing with more focus on video work.
